OPHTHALMOLOGY


ENDOPTHALMITIS

Inflammation within the eye usually due to infection - Oxford

Stem: Unkpempt (IVDU) several days of eye pain
Other causes - Post procedure, foreign body

History - Pain/redness,. Floaters, photophobia, blurred vision.

Ex
Corneal oppacification
Hypopion
Irregular pupil
Pain, vision loss, chemosis, discharge

CT - Intraorbital fat stranding, proptosis, scleral thickening

Mgmt - Ophthalmology referral
Vitreal aspiration for culture
Intravitreal antibiotics - broad spectrum
Severe may require surgical vitrectomy + debridement.

eTG 2024 - Intravetrial antibiotics are the mainstay of treatment. If needing IV:
Cerftazadime 50 mg/kg to 2g PLUS Vancomycin 30 mg/kg (Same abx intravetrial, weird ophthalmology doses obviously)
